Academics Unplugged - Dr Job Thijssen

Soft materials are all around us! Milk, blood, ink and skin cream are just a few examples. Typical characteristics include building blocks of order 1 micrometre (1/100th of the width of human hair) that behave like 'big atoms'; and behaving like a liquid or a solid depending on the timescale probed.

The research in which I am involved considers soft materials for applications in energy storage, both because of their interesting architectures and their mechanical properties.
