Please see below some frequently asked questions about the College of Science and Engineering's inaugural Staff Awards and Celebration Event. If you have a question which is not listed below, please contact us using the link at the bottom of the page. Nominating What are the categories? There are six award categories that you can nominate in, they are:Student experience Staff experience Inclusion Team of the Year Research Culture Sustainability More detailed information on these categories can be found on our Staff Awards and Celebration Event page. How can I nominate? Please nominate through this form by 30 September 2024. Who can nominate? All CSE staff and CSE-affiliated staff. CSE-affiliated staff are those tho work within the College but may be employed by another department within the university, e.g. College HR and Finance Partner Team Staff. Who can be nominated? All CSE staff and CSE-affiliated staff. You may also nominate staff who may work at our campuses or buildings but are not technically CSE staff such as cleaners, servitors, catering staff, security etc. Can I self-nominate? No, sorry! You can only nominate your colleagues. Can you nominate more than once? Yes, you can nominate multiple times. You can also nominate the same nominee in multiple categories if you like, however you can't nominate the same person more than once in the same category. Will the person I nominate know I’ve nominated them? No, all nominations will be anonymous. We also ask that when writing your nomination(s) that you do not refer to your nominee by name but by using something like 'X' or 'my nominee'. This is to remove any potential bias during the judging process. What happens to all the nominations that are not selected as winners? We plan to share all the nominations received with those who were nominated later in the year – so they know that someone is recognising their work. This will be done without revealing who nominated them. When do nominations close? We plan to close nominations on 30 September 2024. Judging How will the judging work? We have launched a call for volunteer judges which closes on 30 September 2024. In October we will select our volunteer judges from around the College and they will score nominations using a secure automated scoring system. Judges will be asked to assess the nominations against the judging criteria for each category and nominations will be anonymised to avoid bias. How much work will a judge need to do? We have developed an online scoring system to minimise the amount of time that each judge will have to commit. However, it is hard to know for sure until we know the volume of nominations we receive. Our aim will be to keep the workload to a reasonable level for all judges and to increase the number of judges if required to manage that. How can I become a judge? Please apply through this form by 30 September 2024. Winners What do we win? As well as the glory of being recognised by your peers, winners will also receive a small prize. About the Staff Awards and Celebration Event Why are we doing Staff Awards? We wanted to do something to recognise and celebrate our amazing staff. We also see it as a great opportunity to foster more of a community spirit and to take time out to recognise and celebrate each other. Will they happen every year? We hope so! However, this is a pilot year – so we’ll assess how successful they have been before we decide whether we should do them again. We will ask for your feedback after the event so you can feed into that conversation. Who is managing the Staff Awards? The College Office have managed the planning and organisation of the Staff Awards. Senior leaders from all College Schools and Units have fed into the plans as they were being drawn up. What will happen at the Celebration Event? Awards will be given to the winners at an event in the Nucleus Building on 5 December 2024. There will also be catering and an opportunity to network with colleagues. Tickets will be available later in the year.
