The Young Academy of Scotland has appointed 48 new members, with 10 coming from the University of Edinburgh. The Young Academy of Scotland has appointed 48 new members, with 10 coming from the University of Edinburgh. The Young Academy of Scotland (YAS) was established by the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 2011 to provide a platform for innovative young professionals from all areas of academia, business, third sector organisations and public life, to work together to address the most challenging issues facing society in Scotland and beyond. The group represents some of the nation’s most innovative young professionals and will join the academy’s existing members in realising its vision of achieving transformative societal change through citizenship, innovation, collaboration, evidence, and leadership. Several of these early career researchers were also awarded one of the University’s most prestigious fellowships, the Chancellor’s Fellowships, in 2024. The five-year tenure track invests in researchers delivering cutting-edge interdisciplinary research and innovation.5 of the new YSA members are conducting research in the College of Science and Engineering.
