This is an exciting time for physics and astronomy at Edinburgh and by joining us you will be part of one of the largest Physics departments in the UK. We are currently ranked top 10 in the Times Good University Guide 2023 by subject. In the latest Research Assessment Framework (REF2021) the School was ranked 4th in the UK and 1st in Scotland. In recent years our excellence in physics has also been recognised through the award of the Nobel Prize to Prof. Peter Higgs.

By studying in the School of Physics and Astronomy you can benefit from our expertise in mathematical and theoretical physics, particle and nuclear physics, cosmology and astrobiology. You will be taught by the very best people at the top of their profession with a genuine passion for their subject.
